Eduardo Mattos Ramos Schubert
Chairman
Eduardo Schubert is a former founding partner of Indicator Marketing Research and was awarded “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst and Young in 1999. He holds a degree in Business from Fundação Getulio Vargas and a Post Graduate Degree from Harvard Business School (OPM). Together with José Leal, he founded Timber Value, BT Agro-Florestal and co-invested in BT Vale in 2005. Among his current activities Eduardo is board member of Instituto Akatu (a Brazilian NGO dedicated to disseminate conscious consumption) and member of IBGC (Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance). He has also served as President and Treasurer of ABEP (Brazilian Market Research Association), as board member and co-chairman of PNBE (a Brazilian business leaders think thank) and also as a board member to two of the most significant global initiatives of the market research industry: WIN (World Industry Network) and RELAS (The Research Leaders Summit).
José Augusto Gomes Leal Filho
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Leal is a graduate of the Instituto Tecnólogico de Aeronáutica – ITA and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. He developed his professional career in consulting spending fifteen years from 1990 through to 2005 at McKinsey & Company, where he became a Senior Partner, focusing on the telecommunications and energy sectors. His experience in forestry began in 1994 when, following the death of his father, he took a leave of absence from McKinsey in order to manage his family’s farms. Wishing to continue his career at McKinsey, Mr. Leal implemented the transformation of the farms to timberland with the introduction of pine and eucalyptus plantations. His experience managing the family farms has provided Mr. Leal with knowledge of silviculture but, perhaps more pertinently, an understanding of the Brazilian timber market. In 2005, he founded Timber Value with Eduardo Schubert and co-invested in BT Vale.
Prof. Dr. Laércio Couto
Associated Forestry Director
Laércio Couto, a Forestry Engineer by the Federal University
of Viçosa, was born in Tocantins, Brazil in 1945. He worked as
a forest manager in several forest companies from 1968 to 1974, when
he was hired by the Federal University of Viçosa. There, he became
a full professor, the head of the Department of Forestry and the Director
of the Society for Forest Research. He has a Ph.D. in Forestry by the
University of Toronto, Canada where he is today an Adjunct Professor.
He also carried out post- doctorate studies in Forestry and Agroforestry
at Colorado State University, USA. He published more than 100 scientific
papers and advised more than 25 graduate students in Forestry and Agroforestry.
A renowned national and international forest consultant, he is also
president of the Brazilian Center for Nature Conservancy and Sustainable
Development – CBCN, the Brazilian Society of Agroforestry –
SBAG and the Brazilian Network of Biomass for Energy – RENABIO.
Henrique Aretz
Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Aretz holds a degree in Business from Fundação Getúlio
Vargas and an MBA from London Business School. Prior to his current
role at Timber Value, Henrique developed an extensive international
experience in the financial markets, at Goldman Sachs (Switzerland)
and Lehman Brothers (UK/USA). Before that, he was a management consultant
at McKinsey & Company (Brazil), with a special focus on the Basic
Materials sector.
José Marcos de Freitas
Operational Forestry Director
Mr. de Freitas graduated with a degree in Forestry Engineering in 1970 from the Escola de Florestas from the Universidade Federal do Paraná. He has worked for several Brazilian forestry companies, such as Group Cícero Prado (now Nobrecel), Duraflora (now Duratex), Copener, Plantar (São Paulo), Florestas Rio Doce, Gerdau, Satipel and Timberjack (today John Deere), in 12 States of Brazil and in a variety of roles. During these experiences, he implemented circa 200 thousand hectares of forests and managed over 400 thousand hectares of planted forests in the last 30 years. He also worked as a representative of these companies to universities, research institutions and forest organizations, such as SIF-UFV, IPEF-ESALQ/USP, FUPEF-UFPR, IPT and others. He has helped develop and sell forest harvesting equipment tailored to individual client needs and has participated in experiments relating to the handling of native forests, having implemented "Projeto Buriticupú" in the Florestas Rio Doce (CVRD), Maranhão, Brazil.

Paulo Braga
Carbon Credits Special Advisor
Mr. Braga was a founder and is currently a technical director of MaxAmbiental.
He is a forestry engineer from UFRJ and holds a Masters degree in Forestry
from Oxford University. He is a specialist in tropical forests and was
one of the founders of EcoSecurities and NovaGerar. In the public sector,
he was a senior executive at IBAMA (the Brazilian environmental agency),
a director of Instituto Florestal and a senior consultant to the World
Bank.
